House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, a Columbia Democrat, said Tuesday he doesn't see any point in having a federal Navy brig in North Charleston is it's not used to hold detainees.
Recent media reports have surfaced that the White House may soon send Guantanamo Bay detainees to the state although such a transfer is not a new idea.
Political opinions have been split with U.S. Rep. Gresham Barrett, a Republican gubernatorial candidate, writing President Barack Obama, asking that detainees not be sent to South Carolina. Other gubernatorial candidates also signed the letter.
Clyburn, during a press conference Tuesday, noted the brig is not in his district but said its purpose is to house detainees.

Very astute of Jimmy to notice that a prison is designed to hold prisoners. What the brig was not designed to do was hold off the invariable protests and eventual attack that would occur if we move the Gitmo detainees to the US shores. Leave them where they are.
