Some South Carolina delegates will leave Minneapolis early in advance of Tropical Storm Hanna's approach.
House Speaker Bobby Harrell, R-Charleston, will deliver South Carolina's votes for U.S. Sen. John McCain this evening, and then fly back home to South Carolina tomorrow. Gov. Mark Sanford has already left Minneapolis, and Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer was also preparing to leave.
"I was looking forward to Sen. McCain's speech and feeling the electricity," Harrell said, but added he "would feel more comfortable" to get back to the Palmetto State.
With Hanna not forecast to make landfall until Saturday morning, other coastal delegates said they would stay through the end of the convention.

I would feel much safer if Harrell and Bauer got back to SC to protect us in the event Hanna makes landfall in SC. Those guys are amazing to come back early in order to be here to protect us.

Thanks so much to Harrell and Bauer to come back early to protect us from Hannah. Those guys are dedicated public servants.

I hope their leaving is really a silent protest against the VP pick. Nothing personal. Really.
