Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Bob Conley has $983 for his race against U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, according to federal election reports compiled by The Associated Press.
Conley finished the June primary, where he edged out Mt. Pleasant lawyer Michael Cone, with a debt of $3,692.
Graham finished the primary with $3.6 million on hand. Conley's report, according to The Associated Press, "shows about three-fourths of the $5,068 he raised during the quarter came from out-of state donors. Most of them lived in California, Indiana, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Texas."

McCain Uses NAACP Conference to Push Anti-Public Education Voucher Ploy
During his speech today at the NAACP’s annual convention, John McCain reiterated his support of taxpayer funded vouchers to send children to religious and other private schools. People For the American Way President Kathryn Kolbert issued the following response.
“John McCain is trying to score points with his right wing base, and he’s doing it at the expense of children. It’s bad enough that these voucher schemes are designed to undermine the separation of church and state. But more importantly, they don’t help children learn. Study after study, including the two government sanctioned studies of the DC voucher program, shows that vouchers are not an effective tool for improving student achievement. Senator McCain claims he only wants to support programs with a record of accountability, but then brags about his support of the DC voucher program which isn’t improving academic achievement. It’s completely inconsistent.
“Voters have repeatedly rejected voucher plans, so this line of attack obviously won't work with most voters — it's an ideological valentine aimed straight at the Religious Right base.”

S.C. schools have a had enough time already without subtracting support with the voucher system. The well healed can already write these costs off on their taxes.Allowing vouchers would cause an additional deficit where the tax base is already strained from layoffs, low pay, and meaninhless raises that don't begin to cover the cost of living that has sky rocketed this past year. Everyone loves to line up and kick the working man in this state, but at budget time we pay that back when we don't have sufficient funds to make our bond payments and have to cut needed programs. ......I also would like to take a minute and wish Mr. Shealey the best in dealing with the bad medical news. Our prayers are with you sir....The medical community can do wonders these days. Hang in there ....
