Legislative leaders to unveil plan for S.C. economy

S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell, Senate President Pro Tem Glenn McConnell and USC president-elect Harris Pastides are among the state leaders who will unveil an economic plan Tuesday they say will create more jobs.

The group will hold an 11:30 a.m. news conference at the Employment Security Commission in Columbia to provide details.

Unemployment in S.C. was 6.2 percent in June, down from May's 6.5 percent rate, which was the highest monthly unemployment rate in 2008.

The state's unemployment rate is above the 5.5 percent national average.

How will they create jobs when the world is in an economic downturn? These guys can't even manage SC's budget let alone create jobs. That is so rich. These people need to be voted out so we can get fresh thinkers in the senate and house and on the budget and control board.....

They need to search The Guardian (UK) and read the story about what Sweden has done to reduce CO2 emissions. Their effort has resulted in 40% + increase in economic development.
And, maybe revisiting some of the New Deal programs - roads, public building, etc. - might help if all the billions thrown at the Research Universities has been so relatively unproductive. Of course, they might need to hire citizens and not illegals to show any benefit for the state.

CW McCall doesn't know his/her facts! The world is in an economic downturn? Ha! I bet you believe that USA is in recession too! Please don't comment on economics if you haven't even taken ECO101!
Yes, if you create the most in-demand jobs then your economy will improve.
