Confederate group wants to raise flag everywhere
The S.C. Sons of Confederate Veterans plan to raise the Confederate battle flag on major thoroughfares throughout Columbia in response to the NAACP’s latest call to remove the banner from State House grounds.
Don Gordon, an officer with the organization, said the Sons of Confederate Veterans is consulting with private property owners about raising the flag along busy Midlands streets.
The national NAACP Monday said it will increase economic pressure on South Carolina until the state removes the Confederate flag from the State House grounds.
The NAACP has convinced the NCAA not to hold bowl games or basketball tournament games here. The organization said it will also discourage the film industry from doing business in the state.

If the NAACP whiners and childish tantrum throwers spent 5 minutes as much time actually getting thier comrades to take self responsibilty - ala speech by Bill Cosby - and gave up chasing a piece of benign cloth, the black race in America would be a very powerful and proud group.
Instead, they choose to have sepratist groups like Black Caucus, NAACP, BET, Black Miss America, Black Chamber of Commerce, 100 Black Men, etc... call themselves African Americans (read President Teddy Roosevelts speech on hyphenated Americanism),demand more rights than all other races in this country, enjoy hiring preferences, race based college admissions, affirmative action, have special protections under law others do not share, have 1 whole month of Black History Month and a national holiday for King (no white guys have any similar celebrations) and force the US to accept black heritage while simultaniously forcing the white race to give up segments of thiers.
Just leave the flag alone. Please. Y'all look soooo pathetic. Hypocritical, but verrrry pathetic.

So, in the name of ending "racism", the NAACP has chosen to wage war on the Confederate battle flag. Given that there are documented examples of blacks fighting for the South - and NOT in segregated companies - and that the photographs from Florida show black SCV members raising the flag in Tampa, just what is the NAACP's definition of "racism"?
There are more needful battles to be fought by the NAACP given the percentage of blacks in prison, the inner city illegitimacy and illiteracy rates, the gangs, the violence, the plagues of drugs and alcohol, the state of black families, the drop-out rate and the fact that despite proven favored treatment since the 1960s and every type of assistance rendered (at great cost to the taxpayer, I might add), apparently the state of many blacks has not improved.
It's time that the NAACP addressed the malignant problems arising from the behaviors and attitudes of its own people. Its present agenda does nothing but advance the cause of BLACK racism to the detriment of all - and ESPECIALLY blacks.

if anyone needs a reason as to why South Carolina is last in just about everything, just take read at some of these posts and you'll see why.

It is wonderful to see people finally respond in the proper way to the tyranny of the NAACP and their ilk. If they oppose our flag - put lots more of them up! If they slander our heritage then proclaim it more loudly. Ultimately we face cultural extinction as Southerners if we lay down before the NAACP and others who would remove our flags, re-write our history books, brain-wash our children into hating their own culture, etc.
Cheers to the SC SCV!

Clearly the NAACP is a fading organisation, in status and purpose. If the annual raising the specter of the Confederate Battle Flag in S.C. is the best that they can do to draw attention to themselves, then obscurity is what they are fighting, not racism.

Tourism has risen with this laughable boycott in place. I have taken a half dozen trips to SC since 2000. The NAACP has outlived it's usefulness and these childish antics prove it beyond dispute. Fly a flag from every post, home, business and interstate intersection. Nazis Against All Constitutional Principles need to be humiliated.

If I'm calculating correctly, then the youngest confederate veteran alive today would be about 156 years old.
Impressive.

From Florida, mone of largest and highest Confederate BATTLE FLAG!

Our state legislature has caused this fight between the SCV and the NAACP. The casualties are the people of South Carolina.
Our state legislature can solve this problem by passing H-3588. This bill honors Confederate soldiers and respects the Confederate flag by flying the Confederate flag on Confederate Memorial Day.
H-3588 provides that our state flag flies in place of the Confederate flag for every day except Confederate Memorial Day. H-3588 therefore offers to commemorate Confederate Memorial Day with a flag raising and flag lowering ceremony. This will be a beautiful, well-attended, respectful, and educational annual event.
Passing H-3588 will be a huge win for the Sons of Confederate Veterans because it would get people to respect the service and sacrifice of the Confederate soldiers.
Passing H-3588 will be a huge win for the NAACP and the NCAA because the Confederate flag would no longer fly year round.
And, most importantly, passing H-3588 will be a godsend to the people of South Carolina. It will end the NAACP boycott and the NCAA ban, and it will take the Confederate flag out of the hands of our state legislators.
Please support H-3588, which is the solution to this crisis. Please write your state legislators and ask them how they feel about this bill. Thank you.

Can you provide a link to the NAACP's statement? I can't find it on their web site.

Michael Rodgers, that's a failed idea you're pushing. No more appeasement of the NAACP. You're plan would be a huge loss for South Carolina.
Reject H-3588 for it is - retreat in the face of 'cultural-terrorists' (what the NAACP really is). No more erasing our heritage and history. We've had enough of that.

Susanna,
As for news from the NAACP's Convention this week, I haven't seen an official press release on this issue.
You can find historical info about this issue on the SC - NAACP website:
http://www.scnaacp.org/html/campaign_for_dignity.html
http://www.scnaacp.org/html/original_resolution.html
Michael,
Retreat and appeasement are military-political terms that are not relevant for this discussion. H-3588 lets us -- South Carolinians -- act independently of the SCV and the NAACP to respect our history. H-3588 erases nothing.
One last thing, if you always do exactly the opposite of whatever the NAACP says, then you're not independent of them -- they control your behavior.

Given the inability of flag supporters to use correct spelling it should tell you the level of intelligence of that group.

Way to take the higher ground, S.C. SCV. Another embarrassment for the city where I got my college education -- and not much else.
Sigh. Somebody dig up General Sherman and tell him to finish the job.

The Virginia Battle Flag makes no sense in South Carolina, and it has been hijacked by every nut group in the US. Replace that flag with the proper South Carolina Succession Flag: the Bonny Blue flag, blue with a single silver star. There's even a famous Confederate Song about it. Or, do like The Citadel; use the South Carolina Battle Flag that flew when we fired on the Star of the West in Charleston to start the war. It's the SC State Flag on a Red background: not blue. For heaven's sake: how about a little compromise and proper history for once.

Look at the headline at the top of The State's page:
"Confederate group wants to raise flag everwhere (sic)"
It reads like it was written by one of you dentally-challenged rebel flag wavers.

If we're going to replace the Confederate flag with some flag that was important to Confederate soldiers from South Carolina, then please let me be so bold as to suggest that we fly the Palmetto flag, which is our state flag.
http://www.scstatehouse.net/StudentPage/flag.htm
And, by the way, that's exactly what H-3588 does -- it flies our state flag where the Confederate flag flies now.

I tell you, this bill is win-win. Please support it by writing your state legislators. Thank you.

Shouldn't it be the "Great-Great Grandsons of the Confederate Veterans"?

Apparantly they don't know the meaning of "Compromise."
Every year we have to hear about the NAACP's so called "boycott." BaSically they only "boycott" events they would be hosting in the state and hold them in border towns of neighboring states. I've heard they've even tried to symbolically turn their backs to the state in protest.
Well guess what, each year various political leaders as well as reps. from the state dept. of tourism admit that the "boycott' has little economic impact. In fact, last I heard our state was actually increasing in tourism.
Hey NAACP losers, if you truly wanted to "boycott" the state, not only would you get up and move out of the state, but you'd do ALL your business like shopping, and going out to entertainment in nearby states too! Of course, this "boycott" is really nothing more than a lame publicity stunt by a group that is not only grasping for straws at remaining relevant but also one that has past its prime and is declining each year (look up the membership numbers).
If you truly were "boycotting" the state I'd be able to go anywhere without having to see any of you. I guess I'll be flying my confederate flag today in celebration. Good job to the SCV, now lets all support them and honk as we pass by the new monument.
Now if only someone could do something about that eyesore dedicated to the African Americans on the same statehouse grounds.....how bout a bill for that?

wow for once I agree with WTF. Michael, once again someone here has to start with the insults. I always say that when you cannot defend your position the next best thing is to insult the opposition. By the way Michael check your spelling. I woudl be willing to wager that you are form Ohio. Am I right? Freaking Yankees moving down and thinking they have to remake S.C. Leave our state alone. If you dont like it move back. If you are form S.C. then shame on you.

sorry, to avoid beeing insulted for my typo. It should have been (would)
Posted by: tiredofpoliticians | 16 July 2008 at 04:23 PM
Well its just a shame that this is happening. Just as the Christians ignore God's will and take Sunday as their sabbath, this is group ignores their history. I guess they must not have taken history class in school. That flag is the representation of the Viginnia Military Institute Naval battle Flag. It is where General Lee taught military tatics. This is the same general who after the war was over said it was all wrong. Why don't the sons due the same for the Confederates who died for the same wrong cause.

See the following article:
http://www.thestate.com/breaking/story/462438.html
Randy Burbage, the leader of the South Carolina chapter of the SCV, says it has made no specific plans to respond to the NAACP's new push... and that another member of the organization [Don Gordon, I suppose, from the top] was giving his personal opinion Wednesday when he said the group was considering putting up large flagpoles with Confederate flags along South Carolina interstates in response to the NAACP.

The NAACP boycot ? Are they not wanting to sue some of the grand strand business owner for closing durring black bike week? The NAACP should help the people of sc and not segergate every issue they have as for blacks only . Why not complain about taxes. We could all agree on this issue.
