Lawmakers said Tuesday they're concerned a Senate payday lending bill is being killed in a House subcommittee. During a news conference today, a group of senators and House members, Democrats and Republicans, called on the House leadership to vote on the Senate-passed payday lending bill that would cap the interest the companies are allowed to charge and also limit the number of loans a consumer can have outstanding at any time.
That bill is presently in the House Banking and Finance subcommittee, which is chaired by Rep. Nikki Haley, R-Lexington.
Haley said she and the subcommittee are committed to getting the payday lending bill out of subcommittee this year. There are several components to the bill they are going through to make sure they have a sound bill, Haley said.
Rep. Chris Hart, D-Richland, tried to recall the bill today out of fear it would not make it out of subcommittee, he said. That effort failed on the floor. Haley said her subcommittee will meet one more time next week. She fully expects the bill to be passed out of subcommittee next week.

What is amazing here is how these clowns jumped out front and critized Rep. Nikki Halley for doing her job fairly and honestly when they pulled a borderline corruption move in the Senate when they did not recuse themselves from debate and vote on this bill when they had OBVIOUS personal interests (Class Action Lawsuits).
