Flags lowered for Peace Officers Memorial Day

Gov. Mark Sanford has orderd flags in S.C. lowered to half staff today for Peace Officers' Memorial Day. The day honors those law enforcement personnnel who died in the line of duty.

I have never equated a police type who died as being something related to "in the line of duty." These people applied for a job and are getting compensated for it. Does the same thinking apply to a sewer worker who dies from a cave-in or gas inhalation? And, let us not forget the cab driver who was robbed and shot to death. Why not a flag for the different occupations each hour of the day?

Give me a break from all these job holders who believe themselves to be something other than what they are--paid workers.
