A group representing liquor distillers called on S.C. to lift its ban on Sunday alcohol sales Monday.
Now that Colorado has lifted its ban on Sunday alcohol sales, South Carolina is one of 15 states that prohibit hard liquor sales on Sundays.
“Like
Colorado, South Carolina consumers deserve increased convenience, more choices
and equal access to their beer, wine and spirits products,” said Distilled
Spirits Council President Peter Cressy. “Seventy-five years after the repeal of
Prohibition, South Carolina continues to cling to Prohibition-era Blue Laws that
inconvenience consumers and businesses alike.”
Cressy noted
in a news release that Colorado is the 13th state since 2002 to strike down its Sunday sales ban
bringing the total number of states that permit Sunday sales of spirits to 35.

Good. Let's go ahead and get all the damn religion out of government.

I am completely in favor of eliminating ALL blue laws. It's time our laws move into the 21st century. People now work all hours, day and night (including Sundays). It is completely Un-American for big government to limit workers shopping rights and retailers selling rights to times that some elites deem more suitable.

I agree, this law should been remove years ago. This law did not stop anyone from drink on Sunday anyway. Most people that are going to drink, buy it on Saturday. This is nothing more than a feel good law for the religion goups. If it stopped people from drink on Sunday, there would be no one arrest for public consumpation, or DUI on Sunday. Remove the ban.
