Abortion ultrasound compromise reached
Women seeking an abortion would have the option of viewing an ultrasound photo of the fetus under a compromise struck between the House and Senate Wednesday.
For more than a year lawmakers have been debating whether to make viewing of an ultrasound a requirement or whether to make it optional. The Senate passed a bill making it optional last session. House lawmakers wanted to make it mandatory.
The conference committee deal means a bill closer to the House version will be headed to Gov. Mark Sanford's desk.
Lawmakers who backed making the ultrasound mandatory hoped the requirement would discourage women from going through with the procedure.

Instead of endless bickering over abortion, wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to make contraception mandatory (just kidding) ...make contraception FREE to all fertile (including teen) males and females?
The r-right can't have both no abortion AND no contraception. Overwhelming evidence shows that teaching abstinence doesn't work.
And frankly, the planet is FULL.

To Kayaker- be RESPONSIBLE for your own actions! Why should taxpayers buy you contraceptives? The next thing you'll want is a state employee to put the rubber on you or make sure your girl friend takes her pill.
Finally, you should have no "right" to take an innocent life just because YOU screwed up and made a poor decision.
This country is already reaping the whirlwind of it's permissive past and will continue to do so.
Why should responsible taxpayers be forced to cough up cash for irresponsible people? Answer - THEY SHOULDN'T !!!!
