Web site shows how state government spends

A state database detailing agency spending is now online.
The Web site, created by Gov. Mark Sanford in an executive order, lists itemized agency spending by month, as well as year-to-date agency spending by categories of spending. The site, at https://ssl.sc.gov/SpendingTransparency, is available to the public and the data can be downloaded.

For instance, according to the database, the Lieutenant Governor's office reported $1,782 of in-state mileage for its employees in October. The report also shows how much each employee received for mileage.

Expenses on the site are broken-down according to the source of the funding, whether General Fund, an earmark or federal money.

"We've long believed that transparency is key to voters' ability to hold government accountable for the decisions it makes," Sanford said, in a press release. "This new site is all about providing another tool for our citizens to have the maximum amount of information in terms of how their government operates and how their tax dollars are being spent. I want to thank the Comptroller General and the folks over at sc.gov for their work on this front, and I'd urge every agency to do more in making more of this information available."

That link doesn't work. Post the correct link please...

Funny, a quick search of account for expenses for Mark Sanford show up very little.

His office designed the system, and he is absent from it. He expenses are "hidden"...NICE......

CH,
Nice try and I do not know what expenses he has and would like them posted but it is my understanding Mark Sanford is thrift and was thrift when he was in Congress. You do not need to belittle him until the facts are known.Maybe you are a Democrats or a power hungry Legislative Republican.

Correct link is
https://ssl.sc.gov/SpendingTransparency/BudgetTransparencyMain.aspx

His reputation is the product of millions of dollars in planned and well executed public relations campaign, stretching back to his first days in Congress.

Is it wrong for me to want to verify rumors that his SLED protection is in excess of $500,000 a year…and that includes driving his kids to private schools in government vehicles with SLED drivers?

That he is out of state a full 1/3 of the year, and much of it on the SC’s tab but with rather “dubious” reason for travel. And that most of these trips are never on the official calendar.

And the list goes on and on…but you get my point. He wants EVERYONE else to disclose…except him.
