Taxpayers saved $58,000 when House took week off

Congratulations to S.C taxpayers. They saved $58,000 last week because members of the House were on their annual vacation.

"And lawmakers got to spend time with their families which is always good," said House Speaker Bobby Harrell.

Lawmakers earn $10,400 annually. South Carolina has one of the nation's longest legislative sessions, Harrell said.

Comments

SC has the longest sessions because they tend to dwell on issues that have little to do with the job at hand...They seem to create a law without researching the possibilities of outcomes if this or that happens... With computer technology as it is today, a computer model could help in doing just that-finding out outcomes of the what if...As far as saving 58000 bux, that will be eaten up, with padding the per diem for sessions unattended..or other so called meetings while on "vacation"

WOW!!!!now give state employee's a raise that they can take to the bank

If Mr. Harrell is serious, he'd push the reduction of the legislative session to approximately half or less what it currently is. These lawmakers go up there for six months @ 3 partial days per week and "hop bars" half the night. It's been a common perception for years that they should dramatically reduce the legislative session if for no other reason than to protect the taxpayers. Taxpayers are only safe when these clowns are in recess. Throw the rascals out on June 10th.
