House adds money to budget for rural roads
The House has approved its first major change to the state budget, shifting $1 million to help build roads, utility lines and other rural infrastructure.
Yesterday House Democrats and Republicans argued the state budget should do more to help rural communities attract jobs and improve their way of life. The House voted down a handful of proposals to add money to a rural infrastructure bank.
But those same lawmakers found success this afternoon.

Whose Pork is this? The odor of stale smoke from the back room is overpowering.

The SC General Assembly refuses to fund repair of existing roads. Why are they building new ones? Road repair is a state responsibility that should be budgeted in the general fund. Rather they've begun encouraging local sales tax referendums to fund road repair. THROW THE RASCALS OUT ON JUNE 10TH. If your legislator does not have opposition, you have until March 30th to file.

Ron - so true, excellent idea..this is the same with education, passing that on to local governments when clearly its this states responsibility to fund all aspects of education at least at the k-12 level. This gives a level playing field to all counties. For example, if a student enters 1-12 in any county, they should have the same educational opportunity, same courses, etc. That certainly isn't the case though.. The concept of 88 school districts only adds to the dilemma of disparity. Another thing, the lottery funding chairs should be eliminated, that money should be used to build new schools or other related expenses that are incurred...
