McCain, Giuliani pick up big endorsements
U.S. Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kansas, who dropped out of the presidential race last month, announced he would support his colleague, U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for president.
Christian broadcaster Pat Robertson, host of the 700 Club, threw his support behind former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani at a press conference today.
The endorsements could be important in swaying the 30 percent of South Carolina voters who claim they have yet to make up their mind on a candidate, according to a Winthrop University/ETV poll released last week.
The poll says Giuliani, former U.S. Sen. Fred Thompson and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are in a statistical dead heat.

Both of them have spiders crawling out of their ears. Those repubs are born-again losers.

These endorsements could sway 30 percent undecideds to run for the hills. Rudy has the endorsements of Bernie Kerik, the New Yawk Gangsters, and all the other riff raff, abortion advocates, pro-lifers, anti-gay people, gay people, pro-church people, and anti-church people. He must be something special. Besides that he is Grand Potentate of 911, and promises to chase all the infidels off the planet. If he gets the endorsement of his 2 ex-old ladies and his kids we'll really know he should run this government. Right?

Only in passing was there any mention of the Republican party having rebuffed Hispanic voters - this in a state that has relied on cuban support for much of the GOP power; no mention of Mel Martinez giving up the party titular head.
By defining the issue as Hillary, the group of Flomax salesmen have demeaned themselves and the process. Very few ideas were presented; no recognition that there is something wrong with a party that is becoming far more nativist than the country it wants to govern. And absolutely no recognition by anyone (other than Ron Paul who seems to be there just to be the handy wipping boy stand-in for Clintonian evil) that tying themselves to a hated policy in Iraq is a tough way to run a campaign.
But what may be the ultimate fault in the Republican debates is the use of the convenient, welcoming, but toxic forumn of Fox News to set up the questions and frame the issues. Not one issue was addressed other than from the perspective of "Republicanism" - the 2004 guidelines which were successful to the extent that a sitting president, in a time of war, was able to retain power by the margin of Ohio. Any possibility that Rudi could ever be competitive in the Northeast is squandered by his constant berating of New York; any chance of appealing to the suburban thinking voter is wasted by a broadside attack on the public school system (remember that most suburban northeasterners have specifically chosen their homes based on school districts which they control themselves).
What that group up there needs is a relaity check - even if administered by the congressional wing of their own party. If the vitriolic anit-hillary rhetoric is all that will frame the Republican agenda for the next year, and the winner of the primary battle will have achieved the goal of mastering anti-clinton, it will be tough to find standins for retiring republicans in the House, and a whole lot of marginal districts will go blue.
As a life-long believer in the 2 party tension in Washington, I would like to see some change, but do not relish both houses of congress and the presidency all in dems' hands. These guys seem to be guaranteeing that outcome.

Did Pat Robertson, a man who once claimed that judges are a bigger threat than Hitler ever was, keeo this in mind when he annointed rudy?
"A Politico review of the 75 judges Giuliani appointed to three of New York state’s lower courts found that Democrats outnumbered Republicans by more than 8 to 1. One of his appointments was an officer of the International Association of Lesbian and Gay Judges. Another ruled that the state law banning liquor sales on Sundays was unconstitutional because it was insufficiently secular."
Talk about talking the talk, but not walking the walk. Once again, Pat just show what a empty suited blow-hard he really is and weakens the religious-right so-called power with every breath.
If you ever Pat or Rudy a dolllar or a moments thought, then you get what you deserve. Nothing in return.
