Former S.C. Sen. Tommy Moore, the Democratic candidate for governor in 2006, is going to work for national payday lending trade association.
Moore, of Aiken, resigned his Senate seat on Saturday. He will become executive vice president of the Community Financial Services Association of America and will move to the Washington, D.C., area, the association said Monday.
“At this point in my career, I saw an exciting opportunity to take on a new challenge that builds on my long history of supporting and protecting consumers,” Moore said in a release from the association. “CFSA shares those goals and I’ve been impressed with the great strides they have taken to educate consumers about responsible use of the service.”

"Supporting and Protecting Consumers" by working for payday lenders? - incredible doublespeak to cover the disgraceful exit from the SC General Assembly by one of its meanest, pettiest, most bitter, but most effective members. As a Yellow Dog Democrat, I say good riddance to a guy who has always looked out first for No. 1 and second for lobbyists with grease. With this new job, he can do both at the same time.

Moore is a joke.
I almost voted for the guy. Glad I didn't.
He wants to grease his own pockets. That is job # 1 for this scam artist.
Good riddance. Hopefully one day South Carolina elected members will wake up and ban the entire industry of scam artists and liars.

we will miss Senator Moore. One of the true leaders in our State.

Senator Moore has been a strong voice for South Carolina. His leadership will be missed.

This is typical of a say one thing do another democrat. A democrat who says he stands with the little guy, protector of minorities and a defender of the poor, has taken a job with an association who's members swindle individuals (minorities in particular)into loans/payday advances with interest rates which can be as high as 2-300 percent or higher. Once again we are reminded that democrats are only interested in themselves and have no regard for those in the minority or the poor.

A sad day for SC's Democrats. First, it's former Gov. Hodges supporting a state-run lottery that feeds off of the poor. Now, we have Sen. Moore joining the payday lenders who take what remaining dignity the poor may have.
We all, regardless of party affiliation, should strive to do better.

Let's support the consumers by being an example and banning the industry. The same buildings that housed video poker games are now home to payday lenders.

Ask some of the many people who pay 900% interest rates what they think of Moore's decision. How hypocritical ...

Jeff,
900%? Hardly Its a $15 Flat fee. Are you sure you arent making up things now?

Glad he has left the Senate, the guy was a complete joke. I never laughed harder than watching his hardly educated self try to debate in the last governor race. Maybe the democrats need to learn that next time they elect a democrat to run for governor they should elect someone with atleast a 4-year degree. It is amazing what 2 more years does to your intelligence and public speaking skills.

There is more (or is that Moore?) to this story than we are being told. Why would a CAREER politician leave in this manner in the middle of a term? Why is he going to an OUT OF STATE organization? I smell a rat, a big hypocritial one at that. I don't think we have seen or heard the last of this man. I hope it is not as a defendent in some federal proceeding BUT I will not be surprised if it were to happen, either.

What if he won the gov office? Would have left the same way? Great support for the people of SC Tommy!!

I actually begged my family and friends to vote for Tommy Moore! This is such a heartbreaking incident. I can't believe he is going to work for the folks that prey on the poor and beat down the sad souls who can't get a break. Are all politicians the same?

"900%? Hardly Its a $15 Flat fee. Are you sure you arent making up things now?"
I'm so sorry to have overstated the case. I saw a disclosure form today, from a friend who had borrowed $ 250 for two weeks - payback is $ 287.50, which the loan company's disclosure form calculated as an APR of 497.3% The $15 "fee" is per $100 borrowed, per pay period.
