School gun debate postponed
The House has put off debate on a bill that would allow more residents to carry guns on public school and college campuses. They are next scheduled to debate the bill on Wednesday.
The bill (H.3964) loosens rules for state concealed weapon permit holders, allowing them to store weapons in a car's glove box or under the seat. In addition, any concealed weapon permit holder would be allowed to bring a gun onto a school campus.
The bill also extends South Carolina privileges to out-of-state visitors with a concealed weapon permit in their home state.

This bill is a disaster and a total disgrace. The whole pro-gun rationale behind allowing guns on campus was that if an attacker broke into a classroom, all the John Wayne's in the world could have their fantasies come true and shoot at the attacker and in theory try to stop him. Obviously this won't be the case if the guns are secured away in a car in a parking lot outside of the building when the said attacks occurr. Guns do not belong on campuses period. Allowing guns on campus is going to create an environment where more violence and or theft of legally purchased weapsons will occur. It is proven that the mere presence of guns increases the violence in a public area where they are allowed. Gun possession does absolutely nothing to prevent these types of irrational attacks as there is nothing that can prevent these irrational acts. Reality check. Sometimes bad people perform horrific acts and there is nothing anyone can do about it. Timothy McVeigh didn't need guns to terrorize Oklahoma City and the armed security onsite could not stop him. In our society these violent acts are not the norm nor are they condoned. It is also not the justification for everyone to pass fear based legislation just to appease a few armed wannabees or opportunists.

Occasionally our legislature just skips right over crazy and goes all the way to bat-guano insane. This is one of those times.
