Being stupid
Karen is such an inspiration, and what she wrote at the end of her last blog entry definitely resounded with me:
“There's no secret, no shortcut. Adopt a healthy eating and exercise plan that fits into your life and follow it. Don't give up if you make a mistake. We can do it!”
Truer words.
OK, I’m well now. And I’m convinced it took me much longer to recover from the bronchitis and sinus infection (what a double whammy, huh?) because I’m not overall healthy, because I’m overweight – because I haven’t adopted a healthy eating and exercise plan.
But wait, that’s not all.
I went to see Dr. Filler for my annual physical, and she did some blood work. Not only did it reveal that my cholesterol (290), my triglycerides (408) and my thyroid (12.07) are scary high, it showed that I’m pretty STUPID. See, I haven’t been taking my medications consistently and how dumb is that? I mean, how hard is it to swallow one tiny pill in the morning and another at night? But I got out of the routine, and kept forgetting. Stupid.
So, first thing I’m doing is getting back on a strict regimen of taking those two small pills. Second thing I’m doing is starting back to walking again. And the third thing is going back to Weight Watchers (again) on Tuesday. I plan to weigh in on Tuesdays and attend the lunch-time meeting, then go to the Thursday evening meeting in Chapin, near my home. Dr. Filler suggested I attend 2-3 meetings a week until I’m fully involved with the healthy eating and exercise plan.
So, it’s back to meal planning. I got some fabulous lunch ideas from many of you, and I’ve collected several Weight Watcher cookbooks. As I mentioned, my entire family will be going on Weight Watchers, even though they may never know.
So I’m going to enjoy the Memorial Day weekend – which DOES NOT mean I’m going to eat a lot. That’s another thing I’ve got to change about my lifestyle – “fun” does not need to equate to unhealthy eating. I’ve got a Weight Watcher grilling out cookbook that I’m going to use this weekend. I’m going to be nibbling on watermelon, grapes, pineapple and apples. And hopefully my new “initial” weigh-in number on Tuesday will be a bit lower than it would be if I went today.
So, everyone have a wonderful holiday weekend. And thanks for not giving up on me.
Lezlie - Glad to hear from you! I'm happy to have given you a little bit of inspiration, too! And your doctor has given you very good advice - follow it! When you take your meds, you'll feel so much better, especially if you are hypothyroid. We CAN do it!! (by the way, I finally did reach 40 pound loss, on my way, slowly, to 50) Welcome back!
