Home town love and an elimination
"American Idol" started off it's interminable hour-long results show with David Archuleta. We got a recap of last night, a recap of his trip home to Utah and another recap of his time on Idol. Wow. The poor kid looks entirely overwhelmed by all the people who came out to support and he set a new record for how many times a person can say "gosh." I'm serious though, how much did they pay these girls?
Syesha Mercado gets the same treatment, except this time we traveled to various locales in Florida. We love Syesha was the theme. She cried like David Archuleta.
Can I just say ditto for David Cook and have this whole pointless elimination over with?
After a lot of suspense (not) Syesha was given the boot back to Florida. The producers decided it was time for her to go...they made that clear by the hard time the judges gave her for no apparent reason.
Regardless, David Cook is in the top two. I'm happy. Next week is the two hour finale where we will have the unveiling of the new stinky Idol song.
Here's Cathy's observations:
No surprises. The battle of the Davids begins and ends next week, and
Syesha is on her way home til the summer tour begins. Actually, it's
pretty much been the battle of the Davids for the last few weeks as the
question was only which one of the otherwise named people would leave
from week to week.
I
have to say I have mixed feelings on this season's outcome. I started
out big time in David A.'s camp, but, have gradually moved more than
halfway into David C.'s. I love DA's mellow voice and the fact that he
can, as Randy states repeatedly, sing the
phonebook. But, therein lies the problem. His voice is almost too
perfect...such that everything starts to sound the same after awhile.
Part of that may just be his youth. One doesn't usually have a lot of
angst to throw into a song at 17. And, because of his youth, I really
hate to see him get caught up in the music business and end u
p the male version of Britney Spears.
On the other side, DC's voice
is not especially unique, but he has a way of making a familiar song
sound different in a very unique way. I love the grittiness of his
voice as well as his stage presence. I think he
is a better
"performer" overall, but, there's no question that little David will
have the little girls' hearts and their moms' pocketbooks when his
music hits the stores.
As Simon said, next week's gonna be a humdinger.
I think all of us David Cook fans need to vote hard next week if we want him to beat out all the teenage girls with cell phones!

I LOVE David Cook! But I agree that all of us Cook fans need to VOTE next week! David Archuleta is so popular with the youth that it will be difficult to overcome. DC is probably better off not winning...then he won't be obligated to AI's cornball rules (i.e., Daughtry).
